Description

Added by The Outbound Collective

If you traveling the Upper Peninsula area, Lower Tahquamenon Falls is a MUST SEE. It's the second-largest waterfall East of the Mississippi. It is a powerful, oddly colored waterfall that is quite a beauty!

The waterfall is only a short stroll from the parking lot but is well worth the stop. It drops over 50ft and is 200ft wide. A stunning, powerful flow. The obvious 'Rootbeer' color comes from tannic acid produced by decaying hemlocks, cedars, and spruces along the river's banks. There are various view points and a small observation deck above the falls. Don't be shocked if you spot a bear or a fox, there's tons of wildlife in this area!

Lower Tahquamenon Falls Reviews

The viewpoint for these falls are very accessible- the entire path is paved. There are steps towards the end, that offer multiple different viewing angles. It's awesome anytime of the year, but especially beautiful during the fall. It is quick, and definitely worth the time if in the area.

Breathtaking views, easy to access, and definitely worth checking out. One of the largest falls in the area, can’t miss!
