This nine day festival features millions of blooming tulips, giving you the perfect chance to experience the vibrant colors and capture a perfect flower picture.

Each year in May this festival is held all across Holland, Michigan, with schedules of attractions, flowerbed locations, and additional information found at the Tulip Time website. It is well known internationally and has been awarded Best Flower Festival, America’s Best Small Town Festival, and the 2017 – 2018 Tulip Festival of the Year.

If you're familiar with tulips you know that some bloom early while others bloom late. The difference in the two is usually about two weeks, which means you may need to do some research to ensure you're there at the right time if you are looking to photograph specific types.

My personal favorite location to visit during the festival is Windmill Island, where you can see the second largest tulip farm in the area as well as a working, authentic Dutch windmill. There are also usually small stores open for Dutch souvenirs and a tent food court serving Dutch food.

Note: This adventure is only accessible in Spring when the tulips are blooming! Dates vary, but it is usually towards the beginning of May!

Experience the Holland MI Tulip Festival Reviews

I got to go to this festival twice in the past couple years and it did not disappoint! The tulips are beautiful and planted all over town, but the best places to see them are at the Windmill Island (and be sure to take a tour of the Windmill itself!) and at Veldheer Tulip Gardens. Besides the tulips themselves, there is so much to see and do - watching the Tulip parade, strolling through the shops at Downtown Holland, getting the Tulip Time specials at the local restaurants and checking out the local contests that are unique to this event! Plan in advance though - hotels get booked quickly and are more expensive at this time, so book early! Check the weather as well, it's springtime, but it's also Michigan, so it could be quite chilly!

Spring in Holland, MI offers as much for the eyes as a candy shop does for the taste buds of a nine year old! You will be amazed at the spectrum of beauty when the tulips are in bloom. Timing is key, of course with the first week of May for the typical peak. Plan it right, and your shutter finger will be busy capturing the millions of blossoming bulbs.
