Swim at El Salto
Added by Crystal Sibson
El Salto is a picturesque swimming hole just outside of La Fortuna, Costa Rica.
Surrounded by lush jungle, the swimming hole of El Salto features a Tarzan swing into a deep turquoise pool along the Rio Fortuna river. The swimming hole has formed below two small waterfalls making this a popular hangout for locals and the occasional tourist.
El Salto is located a short distance from downtown La Fortuna along road #702. As you're heading south on road #702 away from La Fortuna, you will pass a sign signaling the turn off to the La Fortuna Waterfall on Diagonal #301. About 50 meters past this turn off you will see a bridge signed as Rio Fortuna. El Salto is directly below this bridge. If you plan on driving to El Salto, parking is very limited as there are only a couple small pull offs on the side of the road. Do not leave any valuables in the vehicle as this area is not guarded and break-ins often occur. Due to limited parking and possible break-ins, taking a taxi to the swimming hole is recommended. While enjoying your time at El Salto keep an eye out for wildlife in the surrounding jungle. Small poisonous dart frogs among other dangerous animals can be found along the river.

This was a fun place to visit. The area was surrounded by jungle making it feel secluded even though it was by town. The rope swing is a must do.
