Hike the Mistico Arenal Hanging Bridges
Added by Kelly Park
This short hike/walk is only 15 minutes from downtown La Fortuna and a great way to experience wildlife, the rainforest, and catch an amazing view of the Arenal Volcano.
The Mistico Arenal Hanging Bridges Park is just a short 15 minute drive from downtown La Fortuna. Shuttles are available for $18-25 or you can find a tour that includes transportation, admission, and a tour guide (about $60). General admission is $24 for a self guided tour.
This easy hike is only 1.9 miles long and consists of 16 bridges, 6 of which are hanging bridges. The longer bridges can be a bit unnerving for those who are afraid of heights as you are suspended high above the rain forest. But if you can overcome your fear you will be rewarded with a beautiful view -- on a clear day, you can see the magnificent Arenal Volcano from the first hanging bridge (aptly named The Arenal View Bridge).
After the 8th Bridge (Save The Trees Bridge), you can take a short side trip to the Morpho Waterfall. This will be about the halfway point.
Be on the lookout for birds, frogs, and coatis (the Costa Rican raccoon) as well as colorful plants and flowers -- there's something for all nature lovers.
After the hike grab a snack at the cafe or pack a lunch to enjoy at the picnic area overlooking the Arenal Volcano.

Truly Amazing
It's a hike of around 1-2 hours depending of how fast you walk, or if you stop to see the landscape. There's a lot of wildlife, and beautiful views. Some of the hanging bridges might be scary for people afraid of heights, but it's definitely worth it. If the weather is cloudy or rainy you won't see much of the arenal volcano.
