Description

Added by Breanne McNitt

Watch the last rays of sunset leave El Capitan, as you sit in El Capitan Meadow.

After entering the park, keep driving the loop until you get onto Northside Drive, and then park once you are right below El Capitan (the 3,000ft granite monolith that is very hard to miss).

Once you've parked, grab a blanket, snacks, and a beverage. With these items in hand, walk over to the eastern side of the meadow and stay on the designated path that goes past the fences and into the meadow. Now, find a spot to relax and enjoy the sunset.  A spot that is a definite favorite is right next to the tree on the eastern side of the meadow.

Great spot for any time of day! Grab some za from the Pizza Deck and zoom in with your binocs. El Cap meadows is a truly special place to watch climbers do their thing on one of the world’s most famous walls. Around sunset, you can see climbers set up their portaledges (little tents that allows them to sleep on the cliff). There are creekside picnic tables in the area, and great spots for flyfishing. Tack the meadows onto any day for a relaxing hang in the valley!
