Photograph the Sunrise at Badlands NP

Wall, South Dakota

Description

Added by Kaitlyn Janak

The views during the normal daytime house at Badlands NP are amazing, but watching the sun come up over the formations is absolutely breathtaking.

Before going on this adventure, make sure you check the sunset/sunrise times for the time of year you're going. I went in May and arrived at the park at about 3:45am to make sure we were there with enough time. We got to see the sunrise from start to finish and were able to get some great photos during the "Golden Hour".

The great thing about the Badlands is that they have a multitude of pull off spots you can photograph from. We stopped at the Pinnacles Overlook and the Ancient Hunters Overlook, and walked onto a few hiking paths as well to get shots.

I used a Cannon Rebel but you can get amazing photos even with a simple point and shoot or your phone.

If you're wanting to try out some night photography while you're there, this is a great guide to help get you started on settings! https://theoutbound.com/sonja-...
