Sheep Mountain Table is a dirt road that the public is allowed to access in Badlands National Park. It is off the beaten path and not as many people get out to explore this area like some other areas in the National Park.

Sheep Mountain Table is located in the Stronghold Unit that is in the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation of Badlands National Park. The area is prime for exploring. Once you get off Highway 27 for Sheep Mountain Table, you will travel about 4 miles on a well maintained gravel road, to an Overlook and turn around spot. From the overlook spot, you can continue on less traveled 2-track from the overlook, but it is a good idea to have four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, or at least a high clearance vehicle. There are many little pull-off spots along the 2-track, the signs do say stay on the road, but plenty of spots to get out and explore on foot!

Camping is a possibility but you need to be 1/4 of a mile from trails or roads, and out of sight.

There is an entrance fee to enter Badlands National Park, a 7-day pass is $20 or an annual park pass for $40.

Beware of weather, things can change quickly. If the weather is rainy or wet be careful, the Badlands can turn into a slip-in-slide, and gets caked onto your boots and doesn't hardly come off. There are also lots of animals in the park, most are harmless, but be careful of snakes, there are rattlesnakes in some areas.
