Hike and Fly Mount Tam
Mill Valley, California
Description
Added by Michael Vergalla
The perfect blend of mountains, forest, ocean, hiking, flying and beach fun! After a wonderful hike through changing foliage along a mountain creek, you fly off the mountain and soar with birds, finally landing to cheers on the beach and walking back to town for fish tacos and dark and stormy's.. A beautiful self sufficient flying trip.
Park near the Fire Station in Stinson Beach. walk up the hill to the Matt Davis trail head. Follow the trail all the way up the mountain along the creek and switch backs. You will arrive in a meadow with lots of sun, take the first left up the ridge, this is maybe the hardest part of the hike. Its hot, sunny, and steep. Beautiful little orange wild flowers dot the hill. When you get up to the next trail take a left (Coastal Trail). After two forest tunnels make a right up the hill, launch is just below the road. if you miss it you can get back on the road .
Some of my favorite moments on the hike is the temperature change, seeing the plants change as you get higher, the smells, and following switchbacks along the babbling creek.. little wooden bridges. Enjoy!!
