This is a gorgeous 90 minute hike each way: 50 minutes to Queen Charlotte View, then another 40 minutes to Snout Head. This trail is located just outside of downtown Picton.
The Snout track is located just outside of downtown Picton. I walked to the track from the inter islander station ferry as I took a ferry from Wellington to Picton. It’s an easy 15 minute walk. You can get a map at the ferry or the visitors centre, that directs you to the track. I recommend it. I crossed a pedestrian bridge at the end of the walk, and hit the bike tracks and the start of the Snout Trail. There is a sign that directs you to the track. The terrain of the hike is steep at parts and mostly you climb pretty steadily. It’s relatively easy and relaxed hike with stunning views. I stopped every few minutes to take in the gorgeous views.
Through most of the trail, you get a glimpse of the sea and the beautiful surroundings. In 35 minutes I reached the top of the track. There are restrooms and a picnic table. Plus a sign which indicates that you are at the look-out. I continued down to the Snout head. Its took me about 40 minutes. You get to see a lot of the woods on your way down. You can enjoy the picnic table and the view. The track is well maintained with correct signs.
I went back all the way to the Snout Head and back to the Marina. This is a perfect hike about 90 minutes each way. Be sure to check it out for the gorgeous views!!
