Backpacking Silver Peaks Track

Starting at Mountain Road Carpark follow the orange markers to Jubilee Hut. This trek can take 3-4 hours and is 9km. On the way down to the valley which leads back up to the Jubilee Hut, there is a section called Devil's Staircase. DS can be very muddy or icy, causing it to be difficult to get down. DS is 340 meters and must be descended with extreme care.Jubilee Hut has 10 bunk mattresses. It is a Standard DOC hut, first come first served.Rest of the track as a loop back to carpark: Jubilee --> ABC Cave --> pass Philip J Cox Memorial Hut --> Mountain Road --> carpark(this way out was chosen as to avoid morning ice on the way back up Devils Staircase)It took us around 7 hours to get out, including around a half hour stop at the ABC cave for lunch.
