Explore secluded coves and beaches along the Lake Superior coast with great opportunities for cliff jumping.

Marquette, Michigan is known for its natural beauty and Presque Isle Park may be the loveliest place of all. Referred to as the “Island” by locals, this oval-shaped peninsula cuts into the crystal-clear waters of Lake Superior.

Make sure to check out Black Rocks Cove located on Island's western side. To get there, park in the small lot located just off Peter White Drive and follow a narrow foot path that leads directly into the cove. You'll be dazzled by the narrow rock beach lining crystal clear water, flanked on two sides by black cliffs. Hunt for smooth Lake Superior stones along the shore, go for a refreshing swim, or gather your nerve and leap from the top of the tall cliffs into the deep pool below.

The Island is easily accessible by car or bike from Marquette. Take Lakeshore Boulevard approximately three miles north. The road becomes Peter White Drive upon entering the park. Go left. In approximately a half mile, you'll reach a small parking lot near the cove.
