Long Pond is a scenic paddle with chances to see loons, deer, flowers and other wildlife and the opportunity to rent watercraft at the north end of the lake.

You can reach the northern shore of Long Pond by following 102 South until you reach Somesville.  A few miles past this you will notice a Kayak Rental shop on your right and Whitney Farm Road.  You can park near here and utilize the shore to put your kayak in, or you can rent from the shop.  A pull off is on the left if there is parking open there.  The shop can sell out of rentals during peak season so it is a good idea to rent a day or so ahead.  They have paddle boards, canoes, single and tandem kayaks.

After you put in, you can explore the entire pond.  As you travel south there are houses on both sides of the lake, but you will soon reach a more open section of the pond. Here you can decide to head straight south or take or head in a more westerly direction.  If you do go west, you can explore around Southern Neck.  This area does not have houses and therefore the likelihood that you will see wildlife is greater here.  In a two hour paddle we once saw wildlife ranging from a swimming deer to eagles to fish.  If you make the effort to get to the quieter corners of the lake, you will truly be rewarded.  Happy paddling!
