The Quail's Nest Cottage
Point Reyes Station, California
The region of the country just north of San Francisco in Marin County is home to incredibly beautiful and diverse scenery and wildlife. From the towering native California Redwood trees to the gray whales that migrate just off the coast.
Mother Nature provides endless awe-inspiring sights here.
This area is also home to the Quail's Nest Cottage, a permaculture retreat near Point Reyes Station. The two-bedroom, two-bath vacation home is one of four residences on a heavily-wooded two-acre property. Quail's Nest Cottage was thoughtfully designed to bring the outside in. Large picture windows throughout the charmingly rustic home offer stunning views of the surrounding forest and Inverness Ridge. The cozy south-facing living room features a wood-burning stove and a large ocean-themed stained-glass window that invites the sunlight to illuminate and warm the space. Outside, the large, sunny deck with sweeping views begs to be your chosen spot for lounging, reading, eating, and bird watching. Local wildlife often stops by, so don't be surprised to spot foxes, turkeys, or deer!
Perhaps even more impressive than the cottage itself is its proximity to numerous must-see natural attractions. Point Reyes National Seashore is mere minutes away. The protected rocky coastline is home to an extensive network of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails. Diverse natural landscapes include everything from flat grasslands to cascading waterfalls tucked deep into pine forests. Perched high atop the headlands is the historic 1870-built Point Reyes Lighthouse. From the observation deck, visitors can spot a number of bird species, sea lions, and migrating gray whales during the winter. Explore the Muir Woods just a bit further north, named after the famed naturalist John Muir and home of the Coast Redwoods, the tallest trees on Earth.
For a quiet, relaxing northern California getaway, there is truly no better location than Quail's Nest Cottage. The combination of its rural setting, the forest of native redwoods and fruit trees, and proximity to beaches, mountains, and nature preserves create the perfect ingredients for an unforgettable trip.
