Paddle Grayson Lake Grotto
Olive Hill, Kentucky
Description
Added by Heather & Aaron Koch
This is an amazing paddle thru high cliff walls that ends in a limestone grotto with a waterfall.
You will want to begin your journey by parking a vehicle at the Clifty Creek Boat Ramp. From the bottom of the ramp head right and then left at the first option. You will meander through high sandstone cliffs that at the right time of year are often full of random waterfalls. Many of the falls are ephemeral, so it is best to visit right after a heavy rain to experience these at their best. The entire paddle is teaming with wildlife. Great Blue Heron's, Hawks, Fish, Salamanders, etc. There are also many flora and fauna to view along the way. After you gently wind your way to the back of the lake you will find a hidden entrance to the amazing Grayson Lake grotto. You will feel as if you have left Kentucky and entered a tropical rain forest. Here you can jump off your board and climb around on the amazing rocks in the grotto eat lunch, relax and then head back at your leisure. Most of the trip allows boats to idle only so this paddle is usually very peaceful even during busy times. It is roughly 3.0 miles total out and back to the ramp.

Paddle Grayson Lake Grotto Reviews
The first time I paddled Grayson Lake with Sup Kentucky I truly felt as if I had been transported to another place in this world. The high cliff walls, the trees, the peaceful serenity of this amazing place. Then to top it all off the grotto. This is a must see, must do adventure if you are visiting Kentucky.
