Description

This shorter hike gives amazing views with not to much effort put in. The best time to go is during the fall, when the leaves start to change color.

This trail is tricky to get to especially since there aren't very descriptive signs. The trick is to find the right road and to not show up at dark (like we did). You will have to purchase a pass to spend the night on the trails, but it is only 5 dollars for 3 days, and you can pick one up at several different locations including a shell gas station. You will have to take 39 to tunnel ridge road to get to the trail head, which is confusing to tell from the map. Tunnel ridge road is riddled with gigantic potholes that are tough on smaller cars like mine, but if you go slow enough you should be fine. The trail head is located at the end of the scenic route off tunnel ridge road. The trail head is not just for auxier ridge but for all of the trails connected to it as well. This specific trail is only 2 miles and is not to strenuous. It gives you fantastic views of fall foliage and drop offs. There are many campsites along this trail that are right on the edge of a drop off, giving you a great morning view. There is plenty of firewood everywhere, so don't carry any with you. The trail can get pretty busy at times, but there are a lot of hidden places to explore throughout the park. We had a wonderful time camping out here.
