This is a very nice hike. You start out with amazing views of the Tennessee River and the canyon below. The 1st part of the hike is a nice easy walk. But it begins to turn a little more difficult as you hike in past the first few dozen blazes. Make sure to keep a solid footing in some places as you are on the side of a mountain with a sheer drop. That doesn't last very long and your back to a good pace. There are nice places to stop and take in the woods and views. As you decent you notice a change in foliage and animal life. At the bottom of the gulf there is a nice, easy flowing, shallow stream. Around you can find nice naturally rounded stones. Also there is a small slate wall to hang out and eat some trail food. You'll need the break for the long hike ahead that ventures across the stream and ascends up a sister mountain to the top. With another amazing, if more so in some ways view of the canyon. There are nice open woods, more closed off private trails and sheer cliffs on this hike. Have fun, be prepared, and leave nothing but foot prints behind.
