Within 20 minutes from downtown Boise. Multiple trailheads and options for all skill levels. Sweeping views of the entire Treasure Valley

Boise has plenty of trails to choose from when it comes to short accessible hikes. If you're looking for panoramic views of the treasure valley then this is a great place to start.

Table Rock Quarry has 4 different trails to choose from ranging all skill levels and distances. There are a mix of out and back as well as loop trails that surround the "table rock." Accessibility to hike, mountain bike, and rock climb make Table Rock Quarry a perfect location for a morning/afternoon outdoors.

Options:

  • Table Rock Trail #15
    • Starts at Old Penitentiary
  • Table Rock Quarry Trail #17 (My favorite)
    • Traversing around the backside of Table Rock, great views of the foothills, Boise, River, and eventually meeting up with #15 to reach the top.
  • Shoshone-Paiute Tribes Loop #19
    • Short and easy loop leaving the Old Penitentiary parking lot
  • Rock Island Trail #16
    • Technical mountain biking trail starting on the lower end of the area.

Directions from Boise:

Trail numbers: 15, 19, 16B - Get directions to Old Penitentiary Parking Lot. Trailheads leave from parking lot.

Trail # 17 - Get directions to "Table Rock Quarry Trail #17" on google maps or follow Shaw Mount Rd onto E Table Rock Rd. Continue to follow until the road become gravel and it will lead you to the top of Table Rock. The #17 trailhead will be on the east side, facing the foothills.

Hike or Bike Table Rock Quarry Trail Reviews

If you haven’t hiked Table Rock, you haven’t been to Boise. Even beginners can make this hike, though there are some steep parts. Fairly desert-y & unshaded. Best time to go is in the early evening so you get a view of the sunset over the city at the top!

Great overlook of the “City of Trees”! However it is quite popular so you may not be alone all the time up there. Also due to its popularity, the rock has been heavily graffitied and polluted with broken bottles and other junk. The rock face is also fun to climb and there are a few small cave areas located underneath the main viewing area. Good place to snap a photo of the sunset on Boise Idaho!
