Iceland Surf Expedition
Höfn Beach, Iceland
Description
Added by Chris Burkard
Amazing contrast of waves and tall peaks. Secluded beach camping. Zero crowds in the lineup.
Iceland is always interesting with the weather fluctuating. Each day can lead you to face a new series of elements.
One amazing thing about shooting in Iceland is the variation of colors in the sky brought on by being so far north on the Atlantic. The landscape also provides a really unique perspective with being able to capture shots of waves coming in with stunning peaks as the backdrop.
After heading out for a few sessions, we set up our tents, brought out the rest of our camp gear, and were stoked to have the beach all to ourselves.
The town Höfn if pretty small with a population of only about 2,000. However, this region of Iceland is home to one of Europe's largest glacier, Vatnajökull or Vanta Glacier.
If you're looking to explore Höfn further, there are great hikes in the area. Aside from the tallest mountains, there are several which can be hiked safely when you have decent weather. Slightly northeast of Höfn is Lónsöræfi. Lónsöræfi is a wilderness, which is one of Iceland's great hiking areas for full day hikes.
