This hike is beautiful and brutal at a few stretches. The beauty: you go through some cool terrain changes, there are great forests, valley overlooks, and you’ll have to scramble some rock fields. The brutal: there is a ridge above tree line that is a virtual wind tunnel. The day a friend and I hiked, it was killer! Cold and mean! All worth it in the end though. View from the top of Shavano is stunning.

Kayaking this lake is one of my favorite trips I have ever taken. Rent from Glacier Outfitters in Apgar Village, paddle Northwest past fish creek campground and dock by the rocky point trail just inside the cove. The water is a beautiful blue green, great for a swim!

Started this hike early one morning and was back down by around lunch. It has a bit of everything: challenge, views, valleys, scrambling, and wildlife. Saw a bighorn sheep scoot down the ridge like nothing. But the best part was coming around a turn and being face to face with a Buffalo. Those things are amazing and terrifying! Good hike if your in the SLC area.

A friend and I stayed her for a few nights to hike La Plata. Great campsites! Lots of them really close to the lake. Excellent views of the surrounding mountains. Make sure and have a meal down the road at the lodge, hang out for a bit and talk to the couple that own the place.

This was a good short hike. The best part was about two miles in, where you come up over a ridge and it is quite stunning. Plus the surrounding views as you ascend are pretty awesome. Definitely recommend if you are in the Winter Park area and have limited time.
