This is a nice trail for observing wildlife, especially if you hike on a weekday morning. We’ve seen alligators , wild pigs, turkeys, owls, raccoons, otters, woodpeckers, and waterfowl on our two hikes. The easier route travels counter-clockwise in this 7.2 mile loop. There are many boardwalks along the St. John’s River portion, but much of the later trail is along old agricultural berms and footing can be tricky. Bring plenty of water as none is available along the path. If you go after a rain, expect a lot of mud!
