Horseback rides in the mountains of Monteverde bring unreal views of neighboring towns, nearby volcanos, and more.

We booked this particular trip through Cabinas Vista al Golfo in Monteverde - there are many big name horseback riding tours in Monteverde, but this one was a bit smaller. My mom and I were the only ones on the tour with Luis and Catalina. It is well worth the $35 value.

The ride was unbelievable. I am not an experienced rider, but the horses knew the rocky paths well. We worked our way up huge, open valleys with cows grazing and a huge blue sky above us. The path brought us under the canopy of the forest as well - Luis and Catalina don't speak much English, but they pointed out specific trees, enormous ant hills, certain flowers, the occasional creature running by. We saw San Luis in the distance, Arenal, and Santa Elena. The views are breathtaking; incredibly bold greens and just unreal hilly terrain in front of you.

We ended up at a clearing what seemed to be on top of the world, unmounted our horses, and took as many photos as we could of the view. My white horse is pictured above in panoramic fashion. It's hard to do it justice.

When we returned, a long loop back to the farm, the kind lady who seemed to be Catalina and Luis' mother fed us tortillas with egg and lemonade. It was truly a perfect end to a 2.5 hour horseback ride.
