Description

This is a 3 or 4 day hike that leads you around the southeast section of Wilsons Promontory in Victoria, Australia.

This 40km circuit hike starts at Telegraph Saddle and winds you down to Telegraph Junction, then heads coastward toward the first campsite called Little Waterloo Bay. The first day is mainly on fairly open gravel paths then through some light forest until you reach the coast. Little Waterloo Bay is a beautiful beach where you can swim safely (it does get quite cold even in summer). The campsite has running water which must be treated before consumption. The first day is quite easy and about 12km. All campsites have drop toilets which do smell, but its better than having to dig a hole.

The second day leads you through heavy mountainous forest it is the most difficult day with lots of elevation gain, but magnificent ocean views. You can stop at either Refuge Cove (only about 7 km's) or go all the way to Sealers Cove about 14 km's. Both campsites are beach side and both beaches can be swum at safely. Both campsites have running water most of the time which again needs to be treated before consumption.

The last day winds its way back inland to Telegraph Saddle. The first 2 km's are on a slightly bouncy boardwalk, making the going very easy. After that you head back up some forest-covered mountains. The second half of this walk is quite steep both up and down hill, especially on tired legs - take your time, you'll be fine. It is about 13 km until you get back to the saddle. You made it.
