Hike to Laguna Torre in El Chaltén

This hike, while quite long, is a fairly easy & flat hike and can be done in a day with no problem. We hiked out and back in 5.5 hours with a moderate pace, including a lot of photo stops along the way.

The route starts close to the start of El Chalten, and you'll cover the around 200 of the 250 altitude meters within the first 3km of the hike. When you reach the Mirador Cerro Torre you've covered most of the altitude gain and the rest of the path is pretty flat until the last few meters up to the lake.

Along the route you'll pass through some forest areas and also some flatter grasslands. Some of the grassy areas where a bit muddy under foot due to some recent snowfall but everything was easily passable.

Just before you reach the last little uphill section to the lake, you'll arrive at the De Agostini camp where there is a latrine if nature calls. It's only a few meters from here up to the edge of the lake.

Even on a cloudy day when Cerro Torre is hiding in the clouds, the lake is pretty stunning, with glaciers cascading down the rocks at the end depositing floating icebergs in to the murky waters of the lake. 

If you do have camping equipment (we didn't) I'd definitely recommend spending the night at the campsite and enjoying a sunset and sunrise in this stunning location.
