Description

If you're in for visiting some of the most seldomly visited terrain in the Lone Peak Wilderness area, The Beatout is for you. Summit 4 peaks, 3 of which rarely see visitors, and add The Beatout to your bragging list.

Starting at 7,677 feet, hike about 4.5 miles to the 11,285ft summit of the Pfeifferhorn (Red Pine Lake on the way up will probably be your last water sighting until Bell Canyon's Upper Reservoir). Descend its west side and summit the unnamed peak about a half a mile away. Traverse the ridge line to its southwest and quickly bag Chipman's peak before heading along Lightning Ridge to the foot of South Thunder Mountain. Summit South Thunder and either take the north ridge line a ways and then head west to descend near Upper Bells Reservoir, or head back down SW and enter the bowl that rests to the south of Upper Bells at the saddle between Bighorn Peak and South Thunder. Once at the reservoir, descend using the trail for the next 5.5 miles and exit.
