Hiking to the Remains of Eagle Nest Lodge/Tram

Many hikers are familiar with the beauty of Bridal Viel Falls up Provo Canyon. But if you know your history, then you'll also discover that there are the remains of a lodge and tram that was used in the 70s-mid 90's.

Eagle Nest Lodge was destroyed by a massive Avalanche in 1996. There were plans to repair the lodge until a fire broke out in the summer of 2008. All that is left are concrete foundations of the lodge and some remains of the Tram.

Only skilled hikers and climbers should attempt this hike. Mountain Lions are known to habitat in this area. Take caution and don't hike it alone.

To get to the destination of the lodge, you park at the Bridal Veil Falls Park. You approach the popular site that is used for photography and continue to the bottom of the lower part of the falls.

You must continue onward to the upper part of the falls. The trail is on the left side if you're facing the falls. Beyond this point is where it gets difficult. Fellow hikers from before have left rope/cable wiring along the trail to help you up the steep trail.

After arriving to the upper falls, you cross the river and begin hiking on the right side of the falls. This section is extremely difficult and requires free climbing experience. Again there are ropes provided to help assist you.

Once you've completed that section, you will realize that you're on the top of the falls. Continue following the river upstream for 150-200 yards until you see the trail on the right side. Continue this trail uphill using the cable rope for assistance until you've reached the top.

The trail will the take you right until you've reached the destroyed remains of the tram. Be careful around the wooden steps of the tram, it can break anytime. Take pictures and enjoy the scenic view and the beauty of Provo Canyon.
