Description

Added by Josiah Roe

The trail with the most fun, best views, grippiest slickrock, and best downhills in the Navajo Rocks trail system.

Big Mesa trail is the jewel of the Navajo Rocks trail system, containing all of the awesome mountain biking features one comes to expect in Moab, from slickrock to sand chutes with epic views of the terrain.

Located off Utah Highway 313 at the Navajo Rocks Trailhead parking lot, 19 miles from downtown Moab, and 7.5 miles from Highway 191, when ridden east to west the trail goes for 3.3 miles along the base of Big Mesa until it intersects the Lone Mesa Campground road. From there you can go across the road on the Chaco Loop or left back out to Highway 313 and back to the Trailhead.

Typically, Big Mesa is ridden from BLM road 137. There's a small parking lot at the end of Big Lonely and the start of Big Mesa. If you start from this direction, it's primarily a 593 foot descent back to the Navajo Rocks Trailhead.
