5 easy meals you can cook on a camping stove

By: Hannah Kacary + Save to a List

Whether you’re going on a camping holiday, or camping at a festival, you’re going to have to eat at some pooint. Yes, even at a festival – you can’t just drink for a whole weekend with no food

But food choices when you’re camping are often limited. You either succumb to the cheap, crappy burgers at a festival (y’know those ones that are really thin and a bit grey?) or another portion of chips, or you buy a disposable BBQ and wait for hours while it heats up and charcoals your food and eat packets upon packets of crisps and dips in the meantime. Neither are healthy and both get a bit boring if you’re camping for more than one or two days.

But, with a little preparation and organisation before you go you can cook healthy, delicious food pretty easily on a call stove.

If you’re feeding more than two or want to try the pizza recipe then I recommend you get this stove which comes with a grill as well as two hobs so you can boil the kettle for a tea or coffee at the same time as making your breakfast.

Here are 5 of my favourite easy camping recipes for your next camping trip. If you’re a regular camper I’d love to know what meals you cook up!

Scrambled eggs croissants

Whilst you can’t deny the smell of bacon wafting through the campsite in the morning is rather delicious, if you want something different for breakfast then go for these posh scrambled eggs. Breakfast doesn’t get much easier than this camping recipe.

Serves 2

  • 2 croissants, the buttery the better
    4 large, free range eggs
    Small handful of chives
    1 knob of butter
    Salt and pepper, optional

How to cook it

  1. Turn on your camping stove and melt the butter in a pan
  2. Cut your croissants down the middle lengthways to make space for the eggs
  3. Whisk the eggs together in a bowl and when the butter has melted add them to the pan
  4. Stir the eggs to scramble them and, when cooked put them into the croissants
  5. Top with some snipped chives

Vegetable miso ramen

This sounds a little ambitious to attempt when you’re camping, but ramen is usually made in one pot anyway, so what difference does it make?! This easy ramen camping recipe involves minimal fuss.

Prepare the vegetables before you leave and chuck them in your cool box for less prep whilst you’re away

Serves 2

  • 1 tbsp oil
    1 inch ginger
    ½ onion thinly sliced
    1/2 lime
    3 tbsp miso paste
    Water
    1 chicken stock cube
    ½ red pepper
    Small tin of sweetcorn
    2 spring onions, sliced lengthways
    2 servings noodles

Additional toppings: hard boiled eggs, seaweed, beansprouts, chilli

How to cook it

  1. Heat the oil in your pan and add the onion and ginger to the pan
  2. Fry for a couple of minutes until the onion is soft
  3. Add the miso paste and fry for a minute or two further
  4. Add 1 litre water and the stock cube and bring to the boil
  5. Once boiling reduce the heat and simmer for
  6. When the soup has reduced add the noodles to the pan and cook according to packet instructions
  7. Add noodles and soup to a bowl and top with red pepper, spring onion and sweet corn

Camp stove pepperoni pizza

If you’ve been out hiking all day you’ll be craving something a little greasy and cheesy. That’s where this camp stove pizza comes into play. Who needs Dominos after all?

Serves 4

For the base

  • 225g self raising flour
    3 tbsp olive oil

For the topping

  • Tomato paste (thin it with water to create your base)
    Pepperoni
    50g cheddar cheese

How to cook it

  1. Put the flour into a bowl and make a well in the centre, add the love oil and 6-7tbsp of warm water until you have a soft dough
  2. Tip the dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll out to fit your frying pan. (You might make a few small ones rather than one big one)
  3. Heat some oil in the pan, then press the dough into the pan and cook over a medium heat for 8-10 minutes until the base is golden
  4. Cover the base in your tomatoes sauce, add pepperoni and other topping gs then sprinkle with cheese and cook under the grill of your stove until toppings are heated through and cheese has melted.

Chicken fajitas

There aren’t many recipes that are as easy, quick and satisfying as chicken fajitas. Just whack it all in a pan and above into a wrap.

Serves 2

  • 1 sachet fajita mix
    2 chicken breasts, sliced
    1 onion, sliced
    Red pepper, sliced
    1tbsp oil

Additional toppings for fancy fajitas

  • Sour cream
    Salsa
    Guacamole
    Cheese

How to cook it

  1. Heat the oil in a pan
  2. Add everything to the pan and cook until chicken is cooked through and peppers softened
  3. Place chicken and veg in a wrap and top with guacamole, sour cream, cheese and salsa if wished

Vegetable & halloumi kebabs

If you’re craving some vegetables whilst out camping then grab yourself some skewers and create these tasty halloumi and vegetable kebabs.

These can be cooked under the grill of your stove or on a BBQ, it’s up to you.

And for real carnivores, you can of course add some chicken or other meat to the kebabs so you don’t feel like you’re missing out!

Serves 2

  • 1 red/yellow pepper
    Handful of mushrooms
    Cherry tomatoes
    Halloumi
    1 small courgette
    Olive oil

How to cook it

  1. Chop all vegetables and halloumi into chunks and thread onto skewers
  2. Brush vegetables with some olive oil and lightly season
  3. Cook on BBQ or under grill until vegetables are soft and halloumi is warmed through
  4. Eat as is or with a side of couscous.
