Description
Added by The Outbound Collective
While you may question what scenery the Upper Burro Mesa Pouroff Trail could offer given the initial view, enjoy the stroll through the Chihuahuan desert as you gradually find your way into a narrowing gravelly wash. You'll have to pass down a few dry falls of varying height, the final passable fall being 10-12 feet of sloping rock so use caution as you find your footing. You'll know when you have reached the end because you'll be staring out over the desert from the top of a 100+ foot dry fall.
Enjoy the view and the beauty of Big Bend National Park before turning back and hiking out via the same trail you came in on.
NOTE:
Dogs are not permitted on this trail.
GETTING THERE:
Head 9 miles down Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive from Panther Junction Road and you'll see a pull-out on the right side of the road. There will be parking for approximately 6-8 vehicles and if you walk up the berm beside the parking there is a sign for the Upper Burro Mesa trail.
PERMITS & FEES:
Big Bend National Park has an entry fee. Learn more on the NPS.gov website.
