A gorgeous hike through the forrest down to open banks on the Chattooga River. There is plenty of space to relax and then hike up Opossum Creek to the falls.

Once you have parked the car, hike up the road in the direction you came from about 20-30 yards. This is where you will find the head of the trail. Here you will hike mostly downhill through the forrest for 1.5 miles. After the mile and a half you will reach the Chattooga river.

Down at the river there is tons of open beach spaces to hang out, camp, or have a picnic. Even areas to get in and swim if it is in the warmer months. From here you can continue on the trail about another 0.5 miles to the falls. The trail can be a bit confusing to find, but there is a small marking sign that marks the trail to Opossum Creek Falls. This marked trail is off to your left by the woods if standing on the beach looking at the river.

On the hike back to the car, the trail is not super steep, but it is mostly uphill so make sure to enjoy your time and relax down at the river before you hike back. There were a decent number of people on the trail, so get started early to avoid the crowds.
