Camp at Juniper Campground in Mount Diablo SP

Walnut Creek, California

Description

Added by Skyler Hardy

Mount Diablo SP in California is home to a vast array of natural and geological landscapes...Rock City and the Wind Caves to the view on Mount Diablo's summit. Enjoy all these different features of the park while camping in Juniper Campground.

Mount Diablo's summit in Mount Diablo State Park rises to 3,848ft, with Juniper Campground in Mount Diablo SP is at approximately 3,000ft in elevation.  Juniper Campground overlooks the valley below and some of the San Francisco Bay.  Reservations for Juniper Campground can be made at Reserveamerica.com.  Check in for the campground is at 2:00pm and check out is at 12:00pm.

Keep in mind that firewood is not sold in the park, so make sure to pick some up locally before you get there (don't bring in outside wood, there is always the possibility of moving invasive species to a different area).  Here is a link to a website to find local firewood.  The spot I would suggest trying to snag is site number 17.  While a lot of the sites in Juniper Campground have foliage or are set back by being placed across the road from the edge of the mountain, site number 17 is in the open and sits on the edge with a fantastic view of the bay and valley below.

From Juniper Campground, there is access to the 'Trail Through Time' along with other trails in Mount Diablo.  The Trail Through Time is a 6.25 miles in length out and back and the start is in Rock City. Juniper Campground has bathrooms and showers and alcohol is not permitted in the park.  The only way to see the sunset is to camp since the gates open at 8:00am and close at sunset (if you're not camping).
