Distance: 4 miles. Sweeping Views of Joshua Tree National Park. See one of the best preserved gold mines under NPS protection. Stunning wildflowers.
To get to the trailhead, take Key's View Road from Park Blvd for around 2.5 miles and turn left onto a dirt road. The trailhead is at the end of this road. From here, you have the option to do the 6.1 mile loop or the 4 mile roundtrip out and back. This trail takes you through a beautiful desert landscape while meandering through Yuccas and Joshua Trees. The trail has a slight uphill grade for two miles and ends at the Lost Horse Mine ten-stamp mill. This mine was one of the most productive in the Joshua Tree National Park area.
It is highly recommend to climb the ridge behind the mine for an incredible view of Joshua Tree National Park. The summit stands at 5,278 ft.
Spring is a wonderful time to visit as the temperatures are cooler and the wildflowers are abundant.
