Right off of the Kumeyaay Highway from Arizona to California, the Buttercup Sand Dunes is an awesome opportunity for the amateur-expert videographers and photographers to let their imagination and creativity run wild. The Buttercup Sand Dunes offer campsites posted along the main road that runs parallel to all the dunes. My friend and I made this a day trip from Scottsdale, and was no problem. We simply took the freeway all the way to Gray's Well Road exit and then parked along Grays Well Road and began to hike the dunes. We brought a plastic snowboard and attempted to board down the dunes, which can range from tiny to decently massive. We passed the time by flipping of the dunes, flying a drone, and taking both photo and video. As night crept upon us, the stars began to show themselves. Being relatively isolated, the sky was littered with twinkling diamonds. We spent all night photographing the stars. Not until 11:00 pm did we begin our journey back home. Without injury or trouble, this trip was amazing, and I highly recommend it for the explorer in all of us.
