Easy backpacking in the porkies

Backpacking

By: Sam Hoffman + Save to a List

My first backpacking trip was in the porcupine mountains in Ontonagon Michigan. It's great for beginners. The trails are pretty well marked, they have great rustic camping sites with bear poles and fire pits, plenty of sources to filter water, etc. Due to the size of the park I went back again this year to hike another section. I would highly recommend the porcupine mountains. Just don't go during their lake fly hatching season!

Additionally, they have great camping spots close to parking lots for those who just want to camp. There are also cabins available for rent.
