Cliff Jumping into Crater Lake

Klamath County, Oregon

Description

Added by Theresa Wang

Experience the thrill of jumping into the deepest lake in the United States. It's the perfect way to cool off during those hot summer days.

Access this popular cliff jumping spot via the Cleetwood Cove Trail on the northeast side of Crater Lake. The well-maintained trail is only 1 mile long, but loses almost 650 feet before ending at the lakeshore and boat dock. Keep walking past the boat dock for 0.1 miles before getting to the composting toilets and the adjacent prime spot for jumping in.

Gather up your courage, line up, and make the leap! It's only about a 35-feet jump down, but it certainly can feel daunting as you peer over the edge. Don't think about it and just do it - you'll be so glad you did. The water is a chilly 55 degrees throughout the year, but it's perfect for those hot summer days. And it's not as cold the second time around!

Save your energy for the hike back up to the car, the same way you came in.

As always, practice Leave No Trace principles to ensure that everyone can enjoy this gem.
