Description

Added by Keinyn Hudson

This is a relatively short hike that follows the west bank of the Netul River through some beautiful scenery, on a family-friendly, and dog-friendly trail.

This trail can be started either from the Lewis & Clark NHP visitor center parking lot, or from the parking at Netul Landing just down the road. Both ends have more than ample parking for this lesser known National Park, just don't forget your National Park pass. As you follow the trail from the visitor center it starts by going down to the river through cedar forest. This portion of the trail is very well maintained, and has educational signs dotting the sides of the trail. As you reach the bottom of the hill the trail turns to a mix of boardwalk and trail with the occasional footbridge as it follows the river. Looking out you can see the old pilings still in the river from the areas logging days. After about a mile the trail intersects with the South Slough Trail, which provides an excellent alternative route for the Fort to Sea Trail. The last portion of the trail is on sidewalk, until you reach the landing. From the trail on a clear day you can also take in excellent views of the Astoria Column and Saddle Mountain.
