Lake Hefner, located in central OKC, provides awesome kayaking and boating opportunities. Launch from a nice sandy beach, join a full moon paddle, try to catch a wall-eye, enjoy one of the breathtaking sunsets, or paddle over to the lighthouse and listen to some live music for a fun evening.

Park at the OKCBF Sailing Center marked on the map. This is located on the southern shore of Lake Hefner. There are other boat ramps, but this one has a sandy beach that is nice to launch from. There is good fishing on all parts of the Lake. Full moon paddles are offered monthly during the summer months by OKC Kayak. Paddling NE to the lighthouse is always fun and on certain evenings there is live music played at Red Rock Grill. Hefner is a great boating lake. It does require an annual permit. High winds are common so make sure not to go out if the waves are beyond your ability. It can be hard to paddle back when winds get above 15mph. Hefner consistently has some of the best sunsets in the US, period. So, this is one of the best times to paddle. Bring a light for your bow and stern if you plan on being out for sunset so that you can safely paddle back in the dark.
