Hike to Hooker Lake, Aoraki National Park, New Zealand
Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand
Description
Added by Mitch Henderson
An epicly scenic winding pathway to the glacial lake at the base of Australasia's highest peak.
Starting at the campsite car park at the end of Hooker valley Road, the hike winds its way past roaring rivers and over scenic suspension bridges to the Hooker Lake glacial lagoon, where Aoraki/Mt. Cook stands in all its glory at 12,218ft. Depending on the season, the glacial lagoon may cast a perfect reflection of the mountainous background, have scattered glacial ice bergs floating about, or be frozen over and under a layer of snow. Whatever the weather or season, the view is still incredible and will not disappoint. Allow 3 hours (return) at an easy pace. A snow covered pathway during the winter months may require a little more time to complete the hike.
