This is a 12 mile hike that summits Mount Colden (4,715') in the Adirondacks. The epic slide and waterfall climb causes for an extreme adrenaline high.
Beginning at the Adirondack Loj, this trail winds along the foothills of the Macintyre Mountains for 4 miles. After passing through the beautiful Marcy Dam and breathtaking Avalanche Lake, the off-trail route leads straight up the Trap Dike. This climb will leave you amazed the entire way up. After a section of rugged non-technical rock climbing, one must climb straight up the middle of a waterfall, leaving each hiker wet, adrenaline pumped, and smiling. Before summiting, there is a long steep open faced slide to tackle. The views from the top look out over Avalanche Pass and the Macintyre Range as well as Mount Marcy (The highest peak in New York) to the East. The hike down via Lake Arnold and Marcy Dam shows beautiful Northeastern foliage and picturesque Adirondack lakes.
