After the Storm

It was cloudy all day, and then suddenly the clouds broke loose to reveal the beauty behind the veil.

Here's a little context: My dad and I go on camping trips every summer to get away from work and school to just have time together in the wilderness. We have been doing this since I was seven. Some of my favorite moments have been on the trails with him. We mostly talk about school, work, relationships, and just life in general. Other times, we are just silent. Enjoying each other's company and the nature surrounding us.

On this particular day, it had been cloudy and raining all day. We were soaked from our hike that day and it looked like we were in for a long night. Dad was especially bummed because the view from our site was supposed to be spectacular. My dad is the type of man who loves nature, but bad weather can really dampen his mood. I, on the other hand, have my mom's genes. I always try to find a positive in every situation. So me trying to think of a way to lighten the atmosphere of the day, had a brilliant idea to go check out this "secret" overlook with old wooden benches facing the sunset.

As we approached I noticed the clouds were starting to break. I quickly pointed this out. We sat in silence for twenty to thirty minutes when the clouds gave way to the beauty behind the veil. The sky was full of different shades of orange, blue, and purple. It was a sight to behold. It is hard to describe how such vibrant colors can blend together then explode within the blink of an eye. The mountains were silhouetted against the sky beckoning us towards them in only a way nature can.

Thank you for reading my story! I hope like it and will continue to read more stories that are soon to follow.

Cheers,

Nate Swift
