Love scenic views and wildlife? Then hike up to the Mount Brown Lookout for amazing views of Lake McDonald, but keep an eye out for the mountain goats that frequent the trail -- they might just beat you up there!

Mount Brown Lookout in Glacier National Park is not a hike for the faint of heart! Start by parking at the Lake McDonald Lodge parking lot and cross the street to begin hiking the Sperry Chalet Trail.  For a majority of this hike, you will be immersed in heavy woods. The trail will take you past a horse barn and then your assent will quickly begin!

Keep an eye out because the trail for Mount Brown will veer off to the left of the main trail route. The trail then shoots straight up to an elevation gain of 4,315 feet. There are between 30-35 switchbacks as you make your way up the mountain, but if you make it out during peak bear grass season, prepare to be in awe!

The trail will bring you to an overlook where you can see your final destination perched at the top of the mountainside - keep pressing on - it is worth it!

As you continue on, your switch backs get longer and you begin to come out of the tree cover. A few little rolling hills and you will find yourself at the base of the Mount Brown Fire Lookout that was built in 1928. Walk up the steps on the backside of the tower and take it all in!

As you make your way down, prepare your knees for some serious pounding. Be sure to bring hiking sticks because the hike up may be rough, but I guarantee you the way down is much harder.
