Description

The Upper Santa Maria is a seldom paddled gem. It has turquoise waters, warm springs, huge sabino trees, historic churches and amazing class 2 rapids.
There are many different distances you can choose to paddle on this section of river. Various access points along the entire river make for an easy 30 minute trip or a camp overnight 15 mile trip. Paddle boards are the best way to explore this pristine river. Many easy class 2 rapids. If you choose to start in Arroyo Seco the trip takes you through a beautiful uninhabited canyon. The old Spanish silver train road runs alongside the river for miles. After the canyon you arrive in Conca. This access point can be used as a take out or you can put in here for shorter trips down to the confluence of the Rio Ayutla. The clear water of the Ayutla mix with the turquoise waters of the Santa Maria at a lovely campground.
