Distance:Elevation gain:Rollings hills and river viewsSecret trails off the beaten pathHistoric Naval ammunition depot
Starting from the eastern entrance to the park, make your way west towards Beal Cove. As soon as you hit the paved path, make a hard right towards the water. When you reach the edge of the woods, look to the left for a small trailhead. Take this trail and follow along the river.
The trail takes you back onto the main paved path, but don't get on the pavement. Cross the pavement, staying left of the Naval depot, and head into the woods. You will ascend a couple hundred feet to a small ridge - follow the ridge, still with the river to your right.
Trek a couple hundred yards until you reach the old Naval obstacle wall (now covered in graffiti). Keep on the ridge for a few hundred yards. At that point, you can explore the frozen swamplands towards the west, or head east towards the paved path back to the entrance where you started.
