This short, dog-friendly hike leads to the second tallest waterfall in Maryland. Once you get there, relax, enjoy, and weather permitting, cool off with a swim.
This 1.2 mile roundtrip hike leads to the second tallest waterfall in the state of Maryland. It is a short hike that's great for families and bringing the dog. In the warmer months, you can swim in the pool at the base of the waterfall. People have cliff jumped here, but exercise caution and do so at your own risk.
Getting Here: From Pylesville, head west on Pylesville Road for approximately 3 miles and you will enter the parking area at the park. The trailhead will be on the west side of the lot.

Hike to Kilgore Falls Reviews
My daughter and I arrived before it was too crowded and made the hike. We found our way to the falls. There were a good number of spots to enjoy the cold pounding stream and we took all of them in. Waters were invigorating and renewing! Thank you Outbound.

Nice short trail good if you don't mind being around a lot of people, or if your a teenager looking for a spot to hang out with friends. Beautiful little spot, but not very relaxing on account of the crowds.

As expected the park was very busy and Naturally the small parking lot was very full with people waiting to get in and looking for spots. My friend and I were going to call it quits but when we went to make a u turn we saw a farm just 1/4 of a mile from the parking lot that offered to let us park in their yard for 5 dollars, which we gladly accepted because it was better than calling it quits and driving 45 min home. The falls are very pretty however the area is very public, seemingly a large swim hole. We walked around, the trails are pretty well beaten in and there is no real hard elevation gain, we also went swimming we swam under the falls and we also climbed to the top of the falls and sat in the pool right above the falls which was very cool. Would recommend for a nice day in the sun with a picnic however not the best hiking and also very public!

Went Memorial Day weekend. Was so busy. Thought there would be more cliff jumping. Worth it if you're close but not if you have more than an hour drive

Maryland's hidden treasure. Beautiful falls and trails!

The falls themselves are beautiful, but this is one of the most crowded places I've visited. Unless you want to swim here I strongly discourage you from going on a summer day as it fills up with loud teenagers swimming. On a cool fall or spring day however it is fairly secluded.
