Pangkor Island, Malaysia

Beautiful, laid back island. Only 3 hours from Kuala Lumpur. Awesome day trip/overnighter. Beautiful beaches and wildlife.
To get here from Kuala Lumpur, you will have to buy a bus ticket to Lumut and then take a short ferry ride from there to the Island. It is just about a 2.5-3hr bus ride to the ferries and then another 30-45min to the island. I'm convinced that if you set up a tent or hammock here and find a hidden spot to crash overnight, no one will care, bug you, or even find you. However, if you don't want to risk it, you can find hostels and hotels for reasonable prices on the island. Not as cheap as the mainland though.
The island is super laid back and not crowded at all. This is considered a place where Malaysian residents will go for their weekend getaways and vacations - not so much a tourist destination. I would recommend heading to Pulau Nipah once you get to the Island. It is a beautiful beach (pictured above) with hotels/hostels and a store/restaurants right by it.
