Discover the magic of Henry's Trail and bag a little-known peak in Los Angeles's iconic Griffith Park.

Glendale Peak is often passed over by people hiking to Mt. Hollywood, and while it is not as high as its neighbor summit, it boasts arguably better views that you will enjoy all to yourself. While not really a full hiking trail and more of a small detour, Henry's Trail is worth the small uphill climb to Glendale Peak.

The trail is accessed via the East Ridge Trail (Hogback Trail), about 2.6 miles from the Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round, on the east side of the bridge. The junction is clearly marked by a large sign commemorating Henry Shamma, a former local leader for the Sierra Club who frequently guided hikers to the summit.

Though Henry's Trail is only about 0.25 miles in either direction don't let that fool you. The trail pretty much climbs straight up the north side of Glendale Peak, and the small single track seems much more adventurous than the wide-open fire road you just came off of.

Once at the top, you will notice that you have a fantastic unimpeded view of the downtown LA area, Griffith Park Observatory, and Greek Theater. Considering that you probably have the place to yourself and that neighboring Mt Hollywood is probably swamped with people (every day of the week), I recommend lingering just a little longer enjoying the solitude and cooling breeze.

Glendale Peak via Henry's Trail Reviews

This trail is a lot less crowded than the ones that are close by. Unless, of course, people start reading this post! It’s a shorter hiked in the others, but well worth it when you get to see the views.
