The Jim Morrison Cave is a colorful hidden gem in Malibu. The Doors lead singer is said to have come here to escape and write lyrics to some of their greatest hits.
This hangout spot is a little tricky to get to but you can do it! From the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, turn on Corral Canyon Road (you'll see the 76 gas station on the corner). Drive up Corral Canyon Road for about 5 miles until it turns into a dirt road. Drive on the dirt road until you reach the small parking lot on your right. Park here and walk back down to where you see some big, cool-looking, rock formations.
Super short hike with cool sandstone rocks along the way. As you walk down the trail just remember the cave will be on the left looking into the valley so when it comes to choosing paths, stay left. You'll probably see some people hanging out at the spiral rock formation on the ground. You'll want to check this out and see what aliens it signaled down. But, the path to the cave is before the spiral rocks. Look for a break in the bushes and a small path on your left. It's overgrown and not obvious at all. So if you think "this can't be it..." it probably is.
Head down that path and you'll see some rocks with graffiti on it. Although sad, this means you're at the right place. Look for an opening in the rocks. You'll have to climb through a very narrow passageway which people have fittingly dubbed the "birth canal." See pictures above. Squeeze up into the cave and check out the cool view and funny things people have written. It seems to have gotten pretty busy here so you might have company. Relax, hangout & put on some Doors! (If you bring food or drinks, please clean up after yourself! Beware of broken beer bottles.)
Pro Tip: Eat at the the amazing Malibu Seafood when you head out and enjoy a nice lunch & brew with an ocean view! Enjoy!
