Deep Wilderness Campsite

Mathias, West Virginia

Secluded backcountry campsite with nearby natural spring and view.

Tucked away in the corner of "Wild and Wonderful" Lost River Valley of Mathias WV, enjoy over 40 acres of true "Almost Heaven" secluded land. This backcountry campsite is the very corner of West Virginia, hike up the hill to see views from inside George Washington National forest and see all the way into Virginia! At the end of the most remote forest service road in Hardy County called "Hunkerson's Gap", and surrounded by thousands of acres of GW national forest interior for your enjoyment! Hike or bike the trails throughout the day or gaze at the vivid starry sky by night. Experienced campers, pitch a tent at the top of the hill for amazing views during the day and stargazing at night. However, the extra, a cabin in the valley below to stay cozy and safe at night in, is highly recommended. This is a deep wilderness site, if you are not comfortable with things you may encounter things like real bears, coyotes, rattlesnakes or ticks, choose the cabin option. A short drive to the fun Hidden Stables horseback riding (call them to verify when they are open), you get a true horseback experience, this is no pony ride! https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g59297-d4191907-Reviews-Hidden_Trails_Stables-Mathias_West_Virginia.html
