Outbound Reviewed: The Thule Stir 18L Is My New Favorite Daypack

I recently picked up the Thule Stir 18L and was surprised at how quickly it became my go-to daypack. It's only been a few weeks but it instantly replaced my hiking daypack and my go-to bag for going to the climbing gym or running errands around the neighborhood. At 16L, it's not all that big, but plenty spacious for an extra layer, water, camera, snacks, notebook, valuables, etc. 

I really love the double zipper and pull tab opening, which was surprising. I thought it may be annoying, but it's been really smooth. It allows quick and easy access, whether you're just pulling out something from the top or you need to get down to the bottom of your bag. Inside the main compartment, there's just the one medium sized zipper pocket at the top for your keys, wallet, and other small items.

The back panel and shoulder straps both have breathable material and construction, which is huge for me. There's also ample hydration storage with a dedicated hydration sleeve inside with an exit port for your reservoir tube (sold separately).

As someone who pretty much always has a water bottle and a coffee to-go mug, the two external side pockets are much appreciated. If you're one of those people who doesn't need coffee on hand every waking moment of the day, the side pockets are tight enough to store smaller items like sunscreen, snacks, etc.

This is a pretty nice little feature as well, especially if you like to take photos on your phone. This little mesh pocket allows super easy access. No zipper, no fuss. Super clean.

I haven't exactly put this thing through the wringer as it's only been a few weeks, but I'm pretty rough on all my gear and so far it shows no signs of failure. It is from Thule, after all, so it's pretty safe to assume it's built to last. Even if I didn't have those pre-conceived notions about Thule products, you can feel that the materials and construction are quality.
