Summer time on Rainier

By: Jen Fuhrman + Save to a List

After work on Saturdays during the summer, I like to head straight for Rainier. It is the best way in my opinion to start a weekend. I would head all the way up to Paradise. I spent a great deal of time this summer exploring new trails. I have to say my favorite was by far an unmaintained trail where I could get lost by myself. Besides the occasional marmot, there wasn't many others around. That's exactly what I was looking for. Each visit, I would work my way more and more up. Eventually towards the end of summer, I had literally climbed to that hump you see on the middle edge right of the pic. It was one of the most challenging hikes I have ever done. I'm not much for climbing, but boy was I climbing. So worth it in the end. Capturing the blooming flowers was a great plus. I could forget about a tiring work week, and soak in the great views before me. Such a great way to clear one's head.
