Easy hike with an amazing view. From the top of Batur you can see several mountains in the distance, including Mount Rinjani on Lombok, as well as Lake Batur.

We woke up at 2 am to meet our guide who would take us to the site and up the mountain. We had a quick breakfast including a hard boiled egg, a banana and coffee and were on our way.

The easiest way to accomplish this is to hire a guide, although it isn't mandatory. We had a group of 7 people and had a private guide who was very knowledgeable and was proficient in English.

You can get to Batur from anywhere on Bali. We were just under an hour's drive away. Upon arriving at the site at nearly 4 am, we were given flashlights and were on our way. The hike was fairly crowded, as people of all fitness and experience levels were doing the same route. It is not very challenging, and can take anywhere from one hour to over two, depending on your pace.

We arrived at the top with 45 minutes to sunset, and enjoyed watching the entire process. The hike down was slightly more challenging due to all the loose rocks. As long as you watch your step you will have no problem.

There is an option to visit a hot spring after your hike. I don't know much about this as we elected not to visit it.
